The origin of the Olifant brand relates way back to 1841 when a Dutch businessman, J.J.Melcher began producing his Hand crafted Dutch Vodka in Schiedam, Holland. He started trading of his hand crafted Vodka in the Dutch colonial areas of South and West Africa. They also started exporting Olifant Gin in the same period and marked the barrels containing Gin with the mark of an Elephant which gave it its brand name Oliphant.
The founder, Mr. Melcher was thoroughly committed to produce world class alcohol for his fellow Dutch men and as such he was careful enough to select the finest Dutch grains for production of his Vodka. Olifant Vodka is neutral 100% grain vodka. The Oliphant Vodka was distilled in very small batches so as proper attention could be paid at every stage of production of every batch and this is charcoal filtered and then aged for a long period to give it its original smooth and sublime taste. Due to its unforgettable finish and taste, Oliphant Vodka which was little known, grew widely in popularity and became enormously popular in the American market in particular. Its popularity made a mark on the world alcohol market.
